Hierarchical N-doped TiO2nanostructured catalysts with micro-, meso-, and macroporosity are synthesized by a facile self-formation route using ammonia and titanium isopropoxide precursor. UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra confirm the red shift and band gap narrowing due to the doping of N species in the TiOnanoporous catalyst. Hierarchical macroporosity with fibrous channel patterning is observed and well preserved even after calcination at 800 °C, indicating thermal stability, whereas micro- and mesoporosity are lost after calcination at 500 °C. The photocatalytic activity of hiearchical N doped catalysts loaded with Au is evaluated for H2 production reaction in visible light. The enhanced photocatalytic activity is attributed to the combined synergetic effect of N doping for visible light absorption, micro- and mesoporosity for an increase of effective surface area and light harvestation, and hierarchical macroporous fibrous structure for multiple reflection and effective charge transfer.

나노물질 개질 이용한 인공광합성 효율 증대 원리 개발 [Advanced Materials Interface 창간호 메인표지논문선정박정영교수팀]

 

국내연구진이 나노물질 개질을 이용한 인공광합성 효율 증대 원리를 개발했다.

기초과학연구원(IBS)은 나노물질 및 화학반응 연구단 그룹리더 박정영 연구진(KAIST EEWS대학원 교수) KIST 김상훈 박사와의 공동연구를 통해 빛에 노출되면 촉매제의 역할을 하는 광촉매인 이산화 티타늄의 나노구조화 및 질소 도핑을 통해 인공광합성의 효율을 증대시키는 원리를 발견했다고 16일 밝혔다.

 

연구결과는 에너지 저장 및 전환 등 화학공학 분야와 소재 및 바이오 분야 발전에 기여할 것으로 기대된다최근 지구 온난화와 화석자원의 고갈지구 환경의 보존을 위해 재생가능 에너지기술의 핵심기술 확보가 급격하게 요구되면서 해당 분야 연구가 전 세계적으로 이뤄지고 있다.

 

이러한 문제를 근본적으로 해결할 수 있는 기술로 태양광 에너지를 연료로 축적하는 기술인 인공광합성이 점차 주목 받고 있는 가운데 가시광선과 물을 이용해 연료로 사용가능한 수소를 제조해 내는 기술이 대표적이다연구진은 이산화티타늄을 연탄 모양과 같이 계층이 정렬된 계층적 다공성을 지닌 구조로 제작해 구조적인 특성을 바꾼 다음 질소를 투입하고 전기적인 특성을 바꿨다.

 

이산화 티타늄의 인공광합성 효율을 개선하고 빛을 이용해 인공광합성이 원활히 이뤄질 수 있는 새로운 방법을 개발했다연구진은 물질이 계층성을 지니면서 정렬된 경우 그렇지 않은 경우에 비해 2질소 도핑을 한 경우는 도핑이 되지 않았을 때와 비교해 효율을 30% 높이는 결과를 얻었다.

 

지금까지의 관련 연구들이 이산화티타늄을 질소 도핑하거나 다공성 물질로 만드는 부분만이 보고됐으나 이번 연구는 세계 최초로 질소 도핑과 계층적 다공성을 모두 지니고 있는 물질을 개발했다는 점에서 의미가 있다계층적 다공성 신소재를 구현한 이번 연구성과는 어드밴스드 머터리얼스 인터페이스 창간호 메인 표지논문으로 선정됐다.
